A registrar is a government-appointed official who can legally marry you, following set scripts and guidelines within a 15 minute timeframe.
Celebrants come in lots of different forms, all with a slightly different angle. Their focus is on getting to know you and creating a ceremony which is unique to you. I'm a celebrant accredited by Humanists UK, creating inclusive, non-religious ceremonies for couples. Humanism values human rights, equality, empathy and ethics, values which many of us share. You don't have to define yourself as a Humanist to choose a Humanist ceremony.
Find out more about Humanism, and learn about the difference between Registrar and Celebrant ceremonies here.
Humanist ceremonies are not currently legal in England and Wales, although they are in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Jersey and Guernsey. Humanists UK is campaigning to change this, so watch this space.
That means, currently, just like registering a baby’s birth in the weeks after they were born, a celebrant-led wedding will need to have a 2+2 statutory marriage registration. In my nearest registry office, this costs £56 + £12 for your certificate.
You can get married in a licensed venue, or a venue without a wedding license. You can get married outside, in your back garden, on the beach or on top of a mountain. The options are endless, and the world is your oyster.
I believe everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and celebrated for who they truly are, regardless of gender identity, pronouns, or sexuality. Marriage equality is for everyone, and I’m committed to creating inclusive ceremonies that honour love in all its forms.

There are many ways to bring your family’s religious and cultural heritage into a non-religious ceremony. Whether it’s the breaking of a glass, exchanging garlands, jumping the broom, or another cherished tradition, we can adapt these moments to fit your unique day. Together, we’ll craft a ceremony that respectfully includes your families' heritage alongside your own values, creating a truly inclusive and meaningful celebration.
I'm based in beautiful Conwy in North Wales. I’m happy to travel across the UK to conduct your ceremony. Whether your wedding is local or further afield, I can be there to conduct the wedding ceremony of your dreams.
